Paraguay sees surge in coronavirus incidence, mortality

Paraguay has registered its highest daily coronavirus mortality, Report informs with reference to the Paraguayan Health Ministry.

Over the past day, 140 people died in the country due to COVID-related health complications, bringing the total death toll to 10,145.

Since early June, Paraguay has seen a significant increase in coronavirus incidence and mortality.

According to the ministry, 3,135 cases of infection were detected in the country over the past day. As many as 379,131 people have contracted the virus in Paraguay since the pandemic onset. There are now 4,131 patients with coronavirus in hospitals, 571 of them are in intensive care units.

Given the problematic sanitary and epidemic situation, the Paraguayan authorities asked neighboring Brazil to increase the oxygen supply to Paraguay due to its shortage in intensive care units. The republic also suffers a lack of medical staff serving patients with coronavirus and vaccines.

Paraguay confirmed its first case of coronavirus infection on March 7 last year.
