Number of COVID cases in Africa nearing 4M

The number of people infected with coronavirus in African countries has reached 3,967,202, having increased by 23,263 over the past two days, according to the regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO), Report informs referring to TASS.

The number of deaths among those infected with coronavirus in the region over the past two days has increased by 536, to 105,743. This is while 3.5 million people have recovered from the infection.

Most of the infected and the dead were in South Africa - 1,521,068 and 50,678, respectively. Egypt reported 10,995 deaths and Morocco recorded 8,682 fatalities.

In sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa is followed by Ethiopia (166,138 cases and 2,429 deaths, respectively), Nigeria (158,506 and 1,969) and Kenya (108,827 and 1,876).
