Nineteen Turkish-origin German citizens were elected to Germany’s Bundestag in the September 26 general elections, which is a record figure, Report informs, citing Hurriyet.

In the 2017 parliamentary elections, the number of Turkish-origin parliamentarians was 14.

According to the information, five people were elected from the Green Party. They are Melis Sekmen (28 years old, studying economics), Canan Bayram (born in Malatya, lawyer; member of parliament since 2017). Cem Ozdemir (56 years old, one of the two Turks elected to parliament in 1994). Ekin Daligoz (50 years old, born in Tokat, studied public relations, MP since 1998).

Ten candidates were elected from the German Social Democratic Party: Cansel Kiziltepe (50 years old, studied economics, MP since 2017), Hakan Demir (36 years old, studied political sciences), Aydan Ozoguz (53 years old, MP since 2009, Minister of State for Immigration and Integration in 2013-2018), Metin Hakverdi (51 years old, MP since 2013), Majid Karaehmetoglu (53 years old, born in Rize, lawyer), Darya Turk-Nachbaur (48 years old, Turk, born in Paderborn (Germany)), Mehmet Ali Takis (30 years old, born in Western Thrace (Greece), Turk, Greek and German citizen, a university teacher), Gulistan Yuksel (60 years old, born in Adana, MP since 2018), Nezahat Baradari (56 years old, born in Ankara, pediatrician), Mahmut Ozdemir (34 years old, studying law, MP since 2013).

Christian Democratic Party: Serap Guler (41), born in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, was an adviser at the Ministry of Harmonization and Women's Affairs.

Three deputies were elected from the Left Party: Sevim Dagdelen (46 years old, MP since 2005), Gokay Akbulut (38 years old, educated in political sciences, MP since 2017), Atesh Gurpinar (37 years old, educated in theater and media).

The parliamentary elections were held in Germany on September 26. The Social Democrats won the elections. In this political campaign, over 100 candidates of Turkish origin competed for seats.
