A court in Le Mans in northwestern France has sentenced a 76-year-old man to six months in prison for writing a letter calling for the ‘stabbing’ of the country’s President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, Report informs referring to France Bleu radio station.

“The Le Mans Criminal Court heard the case of a 76-year-old man on charges of insult and death threats against Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron. He was found guilty and sentenced to six months in prison,” the radio station reports.

An elderly man sent a letter calling for Macron to be ‘stabbed to death’ on April 15 to his social worker.

The man, a former IT project manager, reportedly made a photo montage of decapitated bodies and the president’s head on a pike. He also wrote about ‘threats’ to Macron’s life during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris and insulted his wife, calling her, in particular, a ‘transgender.’ During the hearing, he stated that he had no intention of causing harm and did not intend to send the letter directly to the Elysee Palace, the radio noted.
