The Supreme Council of Malaysia's ruling coalition, the Alliance of Hope, allowed 94-year-old Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to decide when to leave office, Gazeta.Ru reports.

The prime minister said he was proud of the right that was granted to him.

"I will decide," he concluded.

At the same time, at the end of 2019, Mohamad announced that he would remain in power until 2030. He made a promise to resign after he resolves the problems created by the previous government.

Mahathir Mohamad took over as prime minister from the opposition coalition in 2018. From 1981 to 2003, he led the government from the ruling party.
