Baku. 17 November. REPORT.AZ / Russian Citizen Alexander Prokopchuk is the main candidate for the post of President of Interpol. Report informs that British newspaper The Times writes citing a source in the government.
As it is noted that Prokopchuk has been the Vice-President of Interpol since 2016 and the head of the National Central Bureau of Interpol of Russian Interior Ministry since 2011.
According to the newspaper, his election as President of the organization in the elections to be held on November 21 is almost guaranteed.
The source said that the British government is confident in the victory of Prokopchuk and does not intend to prevent him.
Russian newspaper calls a citizen of South Korea Kim Jong Yang, who currently serves as head of Interpol, as the only competitor.
It is not excluded that South Africa will also decide to nominate its candidate for the post of head of the organization
Notably, the head of Interpol Meng Hongwei resigned. He is suspected of violating the law in China and is being investigated.
