Iran's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Abbas Aragchi, has expressed the country's intention to reduce tensions with the United States and European countries. However, he emphasized that Iran expects the opposing side to lift sanctions and revive the nuclear deal.
According to Report, In his first interview with foreign media since officially assuming the role on August 21, Aragchi told Kyodo News Agency, that in his speech to the parliament, he stressed the crucial importance of achieving the lifting of sanctions, especially unilateral ones, through serious, focused, and time-bound negotiations while adhering to the country's fundamental principles.
Aragchi, who served as Iran's ambassador to Japan from 2008 to 2011, stated that under his leadership, the Foreign Ministry will strive to ease tensions with Washington and restore ties with Europe. However, he made it clear that this is contingent upon them abandoning their "hostile approach" towards Tehran, working to reinstate the nuclear deal, and removing sanctions.
The diplomat also expressed a desire to strengthen relations between Tehran and Tokyo, given his previous diplomatic experience in Japan.
