The film Nafas (Breath), based on the life of Bakhtiyar, who was captured by Armenia, was screened at the Village East by Angelika movie theater in New York with the support of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora, Report informs.

The film crew, active members of the Azerbaijani community living in the United States, Azerbaijani diplomats working at the UN, local community representatives, and American journalists took part in the premiere.

Based on a true story, the film is about the life of Bakhtiyar, who was taken prisoner by Armenian military units during the First Karabakh War.

Bakhtiyar, the main character, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder syndrome. Bakhtiyar, who returned to the village where he was born after being released from captivity, struggles with the traumas. He avoids communication with people and shares his story with nature - rain, snow, trees, and stones. The joy of liberating his native village from enemy occupation does not diminish Bakhtiyar's pain.

With Bakhtiyar's story, the film emphasizes that the effects of the severe traumas of the war can last a lifetime.

The film was met with great interest by the audience.

At the premiere, Azerbaijani director Elmar Bayramov, who has been working in America for many years, informed art lovers about the known and unknown aspects of the film, which was filmed in cold and snowy weather, and answered their questions.

Art lovers also visited the exhibition Justice for Khojaly, where the original photos left over from the Khojaly Genocide were showcased in the exhibition hall of the cinema and learned about Armenian brutality.
