The authorities of the Indian capital have extended the lockdown in the city for the fourth time, until May 24, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, Report informs.

“Delhi has been recovering at a good speed. The number of cases is on a steady decline. But I do not want to lose the gains that we have achieved in the last few days. That is why we are extending the lockdown till 5 am on next Monday instead of ending it tomorrow,” Kejriwal said.

The rise in coronavirus incidence has continued since mid-February in India, bringing the number of active cases to over 3.6 million. Delhi has ranked first among the Indian states in terms of the number of new cases for several weeks. Over the past day, 6,400 people fell ill in the city, and more than 66,000 are receiving treatment at the moment.

Delhi authorities imposed a quarantine in the city on April 19. The authorities ordered businesses and offices to works remotely, and closed restaurants, non-food stores and shopping centers. The city also banned mass gatherings and events, limited the number of passengers on public transport, and reduced the number of guests at weddings and funerals. All these measures are applied in parallel with the night curfew in the capital from 22:00 to 05:00.
