Afghan official: US and Taliban achieve progress in talks

"We hope that this phase of the dialogue will help the Afghan government and the Taliban [also] to negotiate," Advisor to the President of Afghanistan Wahid Omer said.

Report informs, citing TASS, that, according to Omer, significant progress has been made in the negotiation process between the US and the Taliban,

Suhail Shaheen, a spokesperson for the Taliban's political office in Qatar, said earlier that the movement "will refrain from large-scale attacks in the days of the signing of the agreement."

In turn, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called on the Taliban to "show a real ability to reduce violence in Afghanistan."

US media report that the White House may release a peace agreement this week. According to them, the expected agreement will be a call for a ceasefire between coalition forces led by the US and the Taliban, which will become the basis for a peace deal shortly. Under this deal, Washington will cut its military personnel from 12,000-13,000 to 8,600.
