"After the historic victory of Azerbaijan in the Patriotic War, large-scale construction work is being carried out in our liberated territories. The geopolitical realities created by the war and the new security format formed in the South Caucasus have led to the growth of Azerbaijan's prestige in the international arena and its ability to influence the processes in the region. Leading countries of the world more accurately assess the importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan. In this regard, France's recent steps can be considered a good initiative aimed at resolving the unpleasant situations and misunderstandings of the past," Azerbaijani Parliament MP Soltan Mammadov said at today's plenary session.
He said that despite France's unconstructive stance during the Patriotic War, France's intention to participate in the demining process today is an important initiative to accelerate the return of IDPs and ensure peace and stability in the region. Yesterday, a delegation of the French National Commission for the Elimination of Anti-Personnel Mines arrived in Azerbaijan. The board includes the Chairman of the Commission, the Secretary-General, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a member of the French National Assembly. The purpose of the visit is to discuss with the relevant government agencies an action plan covering areas such as support for mine action between Azerbaijan and France, as well as assistance to mine victims, awareness projects on the dangers of explosives. A Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be signed with ANAMA in this regard. Under the memorandum to be inked, the French National Commission will be allocated EUR 500,000 in financial assistance to implement these measures this year.
