The Ukrainian city of Kherson and several villages of the province, which had been occupied by the Russian army in March last year, were liberated at the end of November. Currently, the front line in the Kherson region runs across the Dnieper River, and the liberated areas are regularly under fire.

Report's Eastern European bureau prepared a reportage from the region.

Svetlana Khristenko, a resident of Kherson, told Report that they are currently living under fire:

"I live in an area where the enemy can observe. I wish for peace, quick victory, no victims, and punishment of enemies. Just now, our direction was fired from the left bank of the river where the Russian soldiers were standing. This place is under fire every day. Russian snipers are also in the country houses on the left bank of the river. Many civilians were killed in the area between the town and the bridge."

Irina Hoyka, a resident of Kherson, who lives on the bank of the Dnieper, says that Russian soldiers are only 400-500 meters away:

"Our area was liberated from the occupation last November. But the Russians, who retreated to the left bank, fire every day. They fired exactly 14 times today. They mainly fire from mortars. We sat in the basement all this time. After it calmed down, we came out and saw that our yard and the neighbor's house had been destroyed. Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths. Due to this situation, only 2-3 houses have residents here, the rest have left. Because living here is terrible, we can't go, we have dogs and other pets here."

We left the city and set off toward the liberated villages parallel to the front line. Along the way, we come across various mobile headquarters where the Russian army left. Here we have the opportunity to witness the operation of the air reconnaissance unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is an operation to detect and destroy artillery installations and units of the Russian army located at a distance of 500 meters to one kilometer. One of the Ukrainian servicemen reports that they discovered several enemy artillery firing points: "Now our artillery is preparing to eliminate them. Before that, we discovered and destroyed several of their artillery installations along this line. We detect and destroy the sensitive point of the enemy."
