A new draft law "On Media" clarifies a ban on founding print media by political parties and state bodies.

Report informs that the chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis, Zahid Oruj, said that the interest of a political party is to come to power, and the goal of state bodies is to carry out the functions provided for by law.

Speaking today at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees on legal policy, state-building, and human rights during the discussion of the draft law “On media” in the second reading, the chairman of the committee said.

“We declare the recognition of a notion of state media for only two or three subjects. That is, a political party will keep broadcasting via the Internet or on YouTube. If a political party wants to become owner of a TV channel and broadcast through satellite communications on a nationwide scale, then it is engaged in information activities. This can be considered discrimination against others.”
