Hakan Yavuz: Outcomes of Karabakh war created ground for regional integration

After the Second Karabakh War, the situation in the region changed, and its outcomes created circumstances for regional integration. Hakan Yavuz, professor at the chair of political studies at the Utah University, told a conference of think tanks held in Shusha.

"Historically, this territory was the place where the interests of empires clashed. Both the Karabakh conflict and the conflict in Ukraine are the heritage of the Soviet past. Today after the second Karabakh war, the situation has changed. Conditions for regional integration appeared," Yavuz said.

The professor noted that the instrumentalism of the past was another trend in the region, and it is especially evident in Armenia.

"We see a bright example of nationalism in Armenia," he said.
