Special rep: Clearing liberated Azerbaijani territories of more than 1M landmines to take over 50 years

It will take over 50 years to clear Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation from more than 1 million landmines laid by Armenian forces, said special representative of the president in the territories liberated from occupation that are part of the Karabakh economic region (with the exception of the Shusha district) Emin Huseynov, speaking at a forum organized in Baku in connection with World Habitat Day, Report informs.

Huseynov noted that during the 30 years of occupation, buildings and cultural monuments were destroyed, and enormous damage was caused to the environment.

“During the occupation, Azerbaijani cities were completely destroyed. We call this urbanicide,” he said.

According to Huseynov, during the years of occupation, dozens of hectares of forests were also destroyed.
