Construction of the Tbilisi-Sagarejo highway was commenced in Georgia, Report informs, citing the Georgian Roads Department.

An agreement has been signed on the construction of two sections of the highway within the project.

The Tbilisi-Sagarejo road is part of a transit corridor leading to the north-western region of Azerbaijan. After the completion of the road construction, the intensity of traffic flows will increase significantly.

A 31.5-kilometer four-lane asphalt-concrete road will be built on the Tbilisi-Sagarejo section. The project will be funded from the state budget. The road was designed by Austrian and US companies with the support of the World Bank.

The new road is expected to be commissioned in 2 to 2.5 years.
