Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan mull increasing permit quota for third countries in Middle Corridor

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have agreed to update the Roadmap for the synchronous elimination of bottlenecks and the development of the Middle Corridor for 2022-2027, Report informs referring to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.

This issue was discussed during negotiations between Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Railway and Water Transport, Kasym Tlepov, and representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation and monitored the progress of implementation of previous agreements.

The parties also discussed issues of increasing the quota of permits for third countries, the need for dredging in the port of Kuryk, and expanding the number of locomotives that provide loading and unloading of wagons.

“As part of the implementation of the Roadmap for the synchronous elimination of bottlenecks and the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR - Middle Corridor), the parties are actively working to expand the capacity of the corridor. Kazakhstan is making efforts to develop transport and transit potential in the region and modernize transport corridors,” noted Kasym Tlepov.

The parties also agreed on the date of the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which is scheduled for March 6 and will be held in Astana.
