State Academy of Physical Education and Sport hosts ceremony to award honorary doctorate degree to FIG President

Baku. 1 May. REPORT.AZ/ The State Academy of Physical Education and Sport has today hosted a ceremony of awarding honorary doctorate degree to the President of International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) Morinari Watanabe.

Report informs, Rector of the Academy Fuad Hajiyev spoke about works done in last years for development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan. Underlining successful activities of the Japanese functionary, he revealed that he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the Scientific Council’s decision on April 28. Then the certificate was presented to M.Watanabe.

The guest in his speech called this award a big achievement and considered this as a high valuation of whole gymnastics family. He thanked Azerbaijan on behalf of FIG. M.Watanabe noted rapid development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan: “Of course, these achievements were possible thanks to efforts of First Vice-President and President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) Mehriban Aliyeva. I would also like to note the AGF Vice-President Farid Gayibov. I am also thankful to the Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov for support”.

The FIG President called Azerbaijan one of the leading countries not only in gymnastic, but also in other sport fields. He expressed confidence in further development of sport in the country.

A. Rahimov congratulated the guest on this high award. He noted works done in the country towards development of gymnastics, underlined world and European champions.

Finally, gifts were presented to the guest.
