European Weightlifting Championship will be held in Albania

Baku. 31 October. REPORT.AZ/ The host country of 2018 European Weightlifting Championship changed.

Report informs referring to Inside the Games portal the continental championship will take place in Tirana, Albania.

The competition initially was supposed to take place in Antalya, Turkey on March 23-April 1. But Turkey was suspended by International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) for a year from competing at any IWF sanctioned event. For this reason, the host city was changed.

Executive Committee of IWF at its meeting in Bucharest, Romania on September 30 banned Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, China, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine for a year from competing at any IWF sanctioned event. The reason was that athletes from aforementioned countries had positives in the doping retesting of samples from the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games.
