Countdown for World Judo Championship to be held in Baku begins

The countdown for the World Judo Championship to kick off in Baku on September 20 has begun.

According to the International Judo Federation (IJF), 133 countries have already confirmed their participation. This is the highest figure in the past 11 years. The record of 138 countries was hit in the World Championship held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2007.

On the other hand, 827 judokas - the highest number during the past seven years – have been reserved to the WC in Baku. Participation of judokas from 5 continents in the championship to be organized in Baku for the first time shows the global significance of this sport. At present, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation and IJF spare no effort to prepare for the competition. In line with the schedule, individual competitions will begin at 10:00, medal competitions at 16:00 every day. Mixed team competitions are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on September 27. Compared to previous years, the WC in Baku will last for 8 days.

1st Day – September 20, Thursday: men (60 kg) / women (48 kg).

2nd Day – September 21, Friday: men (66 kg) / women (52 kg).

3rd Day – September 22, Saturday: men (73 kg) / women (57 kg).

4th Day – September 23, Sunday: men (81 kg) / women (63 kg).

5th Day – September 24, Monday: men (90 kg) / women (70 kg)

6th Day – September 25, Tuesday: men (100) / women (78 kg)

7th Day – September 26, Wednesday: men (+100 kg) / women (+78 kg)

8th Day – September 27: Mixed Team competitions.

The 2018 World Judo Championships will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, between 20 and 27 September 2018
