Azad Rahimov: "Our flag was raised at least two times during the day"

The Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports hosted an event dedicated to the 2019 sports results.

According to Report, the ceremony that began with sounding the National Anthem continued with the demonstration of the video.

In his opening speech, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said that 2019 would take a special place in the history of Azerbaijani sport: "Our athletes showed good performance at international competitions. They grabbed 775 medals this year, with 327 in Olympic sports. This means that our flag was raised at least two times during the day. 28 medals were claimed at the 2nd European Games "Minsk 2019". Several important sporting events were held in Baku. We also hosted the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival."

According to the minister, 233 Republican competitions were organized during the year. The minister said that next year would be rich for Azerbaijani sports: "Baku will host four Euro-2020 matches and Formula 1. Azerbaijan will also hold the 55th European Karate Championship."
