Ways to regain smell and taste during COVID-19 revealed

New scientific research has been conducted to restore the loss of smell and taste quickly, one of the main symptoms of coronavirus, Chairman German-Azerbaijani Radiology and Neuroradiology Society, doctor of medical sciences at the University of Cologne Clinic Azerbaijani scientist Nuran Abdullayev told Report.

He said that in the first months of the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, scientific information about the sharp loss of smell and taste as one of the main signs of infection with the virus is known to everyone: "It is a fact that this symptom is specific to the coronavirus. Nowadays, the most powerful effect of drugs on short-term recovery during a sharp loss of smell and taste has been studied. In addition, the course of the disease revealed whether these symptoms had any prognostic significance."

According to him, the latest scientific research has shown that local steroid sprays and ointments, used to quickly recover the loss of smell and taste, are significantly helpful. Thus, in the study, the 5-day application of Fluticasone nasal spray accelerates the restoration of smell, and the 5-day local use of Triamcinolone ointment hastens the repair of taste: "In addition, another study in Brazil suggests that the sudden disappearance of odor should be considered a prognostic factor affecting the clinical course."
