Turkish ambassador: 'We can’t abandon technology, but we need to regulate its use'

Technologies provide enormous opportunities, but it is unclear what negative or positive consequences they may bring to humanity. In this regard, technologies cannot be abandoned, but their use must be regulated, Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan, Professor Birol Akgun said at a seminar on "Geopolitics of Technology" at Khazar University, Report informs.

He noted that technologies have long been actively involved in transformation: "It is unclear where artificial intelligence will lead us. Today, many people are researching how the world of technology will affect the future. Technologies have already begun to influence politics."

The diplomat also spoke about the impact of smartphones on teenagers: "We are only now beginning to understand the impact of smartphone use by the new generation since 2010. The number of suicides has begun to rise. It is proposed to ban the use of smartphones by persons under 16 years of age. They say the cause of suicides is sociology, not psychology. People become prone to suicide as their sense of loneliness increases."
