PACE adopts report Democratic Institutions in Azerbaijan

Strasbourg. 11 October. REPORT.AZ The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has approved a report titled "Democratic Institutions in Azerbaijan" and adopted a relevant resolution.

France bureau of Report News Agency informs, 117 deputies voted for adoption of the document, 18 parliamentarians were against the resolution.

14 PACE members did not participate in the voting.

The resolution contains the following recommendations: fully independent activities of the judiciary, changes in legislation in connection with the activities and financing of civil societies, in order to bring them into line with the standards of the Council of Europe, the creation of juvenile justice, the strengthening of freedom of speech, the strengthening of the right to assembly, etc.

PACE calls on the Azerbaijani government to put on the agenda the issue of creating a gender balance among police officers. The resolution states that the Parliamentary Assembly is ready to participate in the process of implementation of reforms and their application in Azerbaijan.

The resolution notes the PACE's satisfaction with the steps taken by Azerbaijan in the field of human rights and establishment of a lawful state, including the cooperation and dialogue demonstrated by the government in the course of monitoring.
