Hikmat Hajiyev: Int’l community was silent when Azerbaijan faced occupation

The international community remained silent when Azerbaijan faced occupation 30 years ago, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said during the panel discussions "Rethinking the Global Security Architecture & the Prospects for Peace" at the IX Global Baku Forum, Report informs.

In the early years of independence, Azerbaijan faced the occupation of its territory and ethnic cleansing. Azerbaijan understands the difficulties in Ukraine, 30 years ago Azerbaijan also faced a crisis. Then the entire international community was silent, although Azerbaijan believed that they could call everything by their proper names. There was a selective approach towards Azerbaijan, Hajiyev said.

At the same time, he noted that a number of countries nevertheless supported Azerbaijan in that difficult period, and thanked Turkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, which refused to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia, following the norms of international law.
