The business trip to the United States of America of the delegation headed by Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), continues.
As part of the visit program, the Azerbaijani delegation met with the director of the United Nations (UN) Mine Action Service (UNMAS).
The meeting informed about the problem of landmines in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan and the obstacles it creates for the return of former IDPs, the activities carried out by ANAMA and other relevant institutions in the field of demining, and the upcoming goals.
The implemented large-scale humanitarian demining activity, parallel and coordinated restoration, and construction work aroused interest on the other side, and discussions were held in this direction. As a clear indicator of the commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, demining activities in Azerbaijan are carried out in parallel with restoration and construction works.
The seriousness of the demining problem in Azerbaijan and the importance of urgent work were emphasized at the meeting. An exchange of views was held with the UNMAS on the possibilities of future cooperation in this field.
It was also stated that landmines pose a serious threat not only to people's health but also to stability, peace, and security in the region. Recent events are a clear example of this.
The visit of the delegation covers September 12-16.
