Expert: Ukraine’s position has always been unequivocal: Karabakh is Azerbaijan

Official Kiev invariably supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within internationally recognized borders, Chairman of the United Diaspora of Ukrainian Azerbaijanis Hikmat Javadov told Report.

He noted that the dissatisfaction expressed by Yerevan regarding Kiev’s recommendations on obtaining permission from Azerbaijani structures in the case of the occupied territories of Nagorno-Karabakh is cynical in itself.

"One might think that the statements of the Armenian leadership lead to the establishment of peace and the resolution of the Karabakh conflict. Not a bit! On the contrary, the provocative statements of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan just increase the risk of war.But the whole point is that the Armenian side is the same unfaithful friend who is ready to slander everyone and everything around, " he said.

In his opinion, today people in Ukraine have no doubts about who Armenia is for them.

"There is absolutely no doubt that Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan recognized by the whole world. And President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is absolutely right, saying "Karabakh Is Azerbaijan And Exclamation Mark!".

In turn, president of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Doctor of Law Alexander Okhrimenko believes that the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh is similar to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"The position of Ukraine has always been unequivocal: Nagorno-Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan. All that happened twenty years ago is the usual seizure of foreign lands, which led to conflict and a problem that cannot be solved for a very long time," the Ukrainian expert emphasized.

"If Armenia liberates the occupied territories and finds a compromise with Azerbaijan, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry wouldn't mind if Ukrainians visit this region. But for now, Nagorno-Karabakh is a place of military conflict and an uncertain status, so it’s better not to go there," he said.
