EU foreign Affairs Council mulls cooperation with EaP countries

The European Union Foreign Affairs Council (EU) for cooperation with the EU Eastern partnership countries held an informal videoconference.

Report says, citing the press service of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, the meeting discussed issues related to EU support to the Eastern partnership countries in the fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and the preparation of the expected Eastern partnership summit.

The ministers exchanged views on the development of the situation in connection with the international response to the COVID-19 pandemic and worsening security situation in Libya.

The participants expressed support for the EU's solidarity with its Eastern neighbours in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus, as well as its consequences.

Latvian foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics pointed out that holding the Eastern partnership summit in Brussels in June would be a good signal to the EU's Eastern partnership.

The EU launched the Eastern Partnership program in 2009. Its main goal is to develop regional cooperation with six countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
