Report/ Firi Səlim

Baku. 11 September. REPORT.AZ/ Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and South Korea reached a high level of development in 25 years.

Report informs, Deputy Ambassador of South Korea Kwon Dong-siok told journalists.

"Presence of a large number of South Korean companies operating in Azerbaijan proves this" the diplomat said.

According to him, the largest South Korean company Samsung is implementing a number of projects in Azerbaijan.

"At the moment there are over 10 South Korean companies in Azerbaijan - they are the best and biggest companies of the country. These companies work in important areas for Azerbaijan, in particular, in the field of infrastructure, which benefits both sides. South Korea's experience in the non-oil sector is very high - IT, infrastructure, medicine, agriculture, which could be of interest to Azerbaijan, " Kwon Dong-siok stressed.

"At the moment there is no direct air communication between our countries, however this year the growth in number of tourists from South Korea to Azerbaijan was recorded," the deputy ambassador said.

He stressed that the level of relations between the countries is growing due to the mutual visits of presidents of Azerbaijan and South Korea.

"For 25 years, relations between our countries are at the highest level. Bilateral cooperation in all spheres is high, we are working towards bringing it to a higher level, " Kwon Dong-siok said.

He added that the Koreans know little about Azerbaijan.

"Despite the fact that geographically we are at a great distance from each other, the mentality of Koreans and Azerbaijanis is very similar. We must ensure rapprochement of peoples, which is a priority. The absence of direct flights is an obstacle, which we are currently working on and are negotiating, "the deputy ambassador said, expressing hope that this will happen in the near future.
