The vandalism act against the monument of Khurshidbanu Natavan in France is a manifestation of the radicalization of the West, said Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's Ambassador for Special Assignments Elshad Iskandarov, Report informs.
Speaking at the international conference themed “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku, specifically at the plenary session titled “Multiculturalism, Islam and the Clash of Civilisations Theory: Rethinking Islamophobia," he reported that the defaced monument was salvaged and relocated to the premises of the Azerbaijani embassy in France, stating, "Such occurrences should not take place in contemporary society. However, it cannot be ignored. There is evidence of increasing radicalization within Western thought, as demonstrated by the acts of vandalism."
The ambassador noted that there has been a shift in trends amidst the predominance of Western culture over the past half-century: "The current narrative often portrays Muslims as antagonists to global values in the Western world, which is part of the wider issue of Islamophobia. This trend is deplorable."
Iskandarov highlighted that, contrary to the popular belief, Muslim nations are significant contributors to global progress: "Nations like Türkiye, Qatar, and Malaysia are actively working to oppose Islamophobia. However, this does not signify its conclusion. Islamophobia is solidifying as a notable trend among the right-wing factions in countries such as France. The campaign against Islamophobia needs to be coordinated and systemic."
