Azerbaijani representation of the International Committee: Armenia has become a place where human rights are being violated

Baku. 31 January. REPORT.AZ/ "Armenia's political prisoner has died from hunger strike. Human right violations continue in the country. Armenia, which calls itself a democratic state, has become a place where human rights are being violated," the Azerbaijani office of the International Committee of Human Rights said in a statement.

It was stressed that there is no good reason to talk about democracy and even the rule of law in Armenia, whom the world leading organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, OSCE and other international organizations, call the 'country of innovations'.

"It is surprising that the international organizations that showed a great sensitivity to elections and human rights issues in Azerbaijan have turned a blind eye on the brutal violations of human rights in Armenia, imprisonment of innocent people, falsification of the electoral process and other issues.

Today, the international organizations do not comment on the reports disseminated globally, including the American and European press, about the death of Armenia's political party leader and political prisoner Mher Yeghiazaryan in prison on January 26, after a 52-day hunger strike. As the Azerbaijani office of the International Human Rights Committee and the Center for Socio-Political Processes and International Studies, we urge the EU members to put an end to double standards in the South Caucasus region," the statement reads.
