Vagif Sadıgov: We have only one candidate - Gurban Gurbanov

Baku. 2 November. REPORT.AZ/ “Something specific can be said only after discussions on candidate for head coach position of Azerbaijan national team. For now, I can only express my citizen’s opinion. If we are talking about local specialist, we one candidate- Gurban Gurbanov. The general opinion is so.”

Vagif Sadigov, Member of the AFFA Executive Committee and Chairman of Referees Committee told Report.

AFFA Executive Committee meeting will be held at Baku Olympic Stadium on November 3. The meeting will address discussion of the candidates for head coach position of Azerbaijan national team.

V. Sadigov said he can only speak about particular candidates: “I don’t know in which direction the exchange of views will go tomorrow. If there were particular names I could have spoken. It is an important moment. We should make a decision that will help national team to have better results than now.”

Experienced specialist also commented on the proposed option for G.Gurbanov to coach both the national team and Qarabag FC.

He said temporarily the same referee can be allowed to work in two places.

“As in all spheres, today the development of our football is obvious. The latest achievements of Qarabag and national team proves that. We have to do a good job that Azerbaijani national football team and Qarabag FC could benefit from it. Temporarily the same referee can be allowed to work in two places. But the new specialist needs to focus his attention on one place. Because we have Euro 2020 group stage and Nations League. In such situation, it will also be difficult for coach himself to work in two places. We all should support the head coach of national team. We all work for general purpose and should do our best to have greater results.”

The-three-year contract of the current head coach of Azerbaijan national team Robert Prosinečki expires in December. The parties have already disclosed that will not continue cooperation.
