UEFA publishes statistics for Qarabag-Atletico match

Bakı. 14 October. REPORT.AZ/ The UEFA official website published the statistics for upcoming match to be played at home between Qarabag and Atletico in the third round of Champions League group stage.

Report informs, article features that the squads will play for the first time and both teams will try to leave behind the defeat they faced in the last tour.

Qarabag

Qarabag will play with Spanish team Atletico for the first time. Atletico never played official match with Azerbaijani club.

Aghdam team lost the first two matches in the group. The squad led by Gurban Gurbanov lost to Chelsea 0:6 in England and was defeated by Roma with a score 1:2 in Baku.

Qarabag won 2 of 10 home matches and lost four times in the group stage of Champions League and Europa League.

Azerbaijani club qualified for the group stage of Champions League for the first time. Qarabag managed to pave the way for group stage by winning Samtredia, Georgia (5:0, 1:0), Sheriff, Moldova (0:0, 2:1) and Copenhagen, Denmark (1:0, 1:2).

This is the fourth season of Qarabag in Champions League. Azerbaijani team lost three qualifications in previous three seasons. Although Baku based club thrown out of Champions League three seasons in a row in 2016/2017, the third time it made a way to the group of Europa League. Nevertheless, Azerbaijani club never qualified till 1/16 finals. After becoming 5 time winner of Azerbaijan Premier League in 2016/2017 season, it qualified for Champions League group.

Atletico

Madrid representative played a friendly away match with Baku in 2013 and won with a score of 3:0. One of the goals in that game was scored by Diego Costa who returned from Chelsea to Atletico. But he may come to the field after winter break. Atletico played away with Roma in a draw. Afterwards the club was defeated by Chelsea at home with a score 1:2.

The Madrid team won only 3 of 10 away matches in the Champions League. Atletico won 2 of 3 away matches in the group stage last year.

Atletico Madrid toke over third place in La Liga of Spain of 2016/2017 season. It could have been the seventh team that won all 6 games in the Champions League group. But in the last tour Atletico lost to FC Bayern Munich.

The team led by Diego Simeone lost to Real Madrid in semifinals of last season and thrown out of the competition.
