Baku. 20 February. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijani FIFA referee Aliyar Aghayev will not receive any appointment to 1/16 finals matches of UEFA Europa League.
Chairman of the AFFA Referees Committee Khagani Mammadov told Report.
According to him, it is possible for Aliyar Aghayev to get appointment for 1/8 finals of continental tournament: “Aliyar wasn’t appointed to 1/16 finals matches of Europa League. But I don’t exclude his appointment for the next round. One is true, as the tournament approaches to the final, chances for him to get an appointment reduce. But everything is possible. For example, it may happen so that one of games ends with big score and the revenge becomes a formality. In such case there is higher possibility for him to get invitation”.
Chairman of committee told that appointment for decisive games in current season for the Azerbaijani FIFA referee, who managed “Roma" vs "Astra", "Konyaspor" vs "Braga" and "Schalke" vs "Nice" games, doesn’t seem realistic: “Appointment to 1/4 finals stage or final match is of low possibility. It is not realistic. There is bigger chance for Aghayev to get chief referee appointment for next round of 2018 World Cup qualification matches”.
Notably, 5th round of 2018 World Cup qualification stage will be played on March 24-26.
