Turkmenistan aims to boost electricity exports to Europe via Azerbaijan

During the recent "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2024" conference, Annageldy Saparov, the Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan, announced the country's plans to increase electricity exports to European countries through Azerbaijan.

According to Report, Saparov highlighted that Turkmenistan is currently implementing several projects aimed at diversifying export routes and expanding the export of electricity. The country boasts 12 power plants with a total installed capacity of 7,000 MW, ensuring reliable electricity supply for domestic consumers and enabling the export of surplus electricity to neighboring countries in annually increasing volumes.

The introduction of a combined power plant in the Turkmenbashi etrap of the Balkan velayat, with a capacity of 1,600 MW, is expected to contribute to the increase in electricity exports to European countries via Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and across the Caspian Sea bed. The construction of this power plant is progressing at an accelerated pace.

Saparov also mentioned the successful implementation of projects such as the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan high-voltage power transmission line and the expansion of the "Nur Ul-Jihad" substation located in Afghanistan.
