How pandemic affected gas demand

The 2020 pandemic, which changed the global gas market conjuncture, will not significantly affect long-term forecasts; demand will grow.

Report informs citing the Prime that according to Gazprom, the novel coronavirus pandemic has become the most significant event of 2020, including in the energy market. At the same time, the impact of the pandemic on the global gas market was quite limited.

"The events of 2020, which changed the current state of the world gas market, will not have a significant impact on long-term forecasts. The main reason is the unique properties of natural gas as an energy carrier, which simultaneously ensure energy security and sustainable development on a global scale," the release says.

"In the long term, demand for natural gas will grow. It is expected that by 2040 the global gas consumption will increase by 1.3 trillion cubic meters and reach 5.3 trillion cubic meters," Gazprom believes.
