SOCAR Polymer clarifies issue on smoke emission into atmosphere

Baku. 31 December. REPORT.AZ/ On December 30, a smoke was emitted into atmosphere due to power cut in SOCAR Polymer. As a result of immediate measures, all processes in the plant were suspended in accordance with the state of emergency and smoke emission was stopped, Report informs citing SOCAR Polymer.

SOCAR Polymer is supplied with energy by Sumgayit Chemical Industry Park. According to initial information, the power cut was caused by instability in high voltage power line in the Park. After elimination of these disorders, SOCAR Polymer needs two days to resume operation.

It was noted that SOCAR Polymer has control systems adn devices that remove any harmful substances, which are formed during production processes, by neutralizing.

‘Even in abnormal conditions, the computerized control adn management systems of the Plant are able to provide taking several preventive measures by automatically offering urgent solution ways against possible negative cases before normalization of situation. In order to improve design and engineering projects in such types of plants, the licensers of the plant LyondellBasell and INEOS applied the lessons they studied and conclusions they drawn from the long-term exploitation of same plants in many countries. Azerbaijan-based polypropylene and high-density polyethylene plants were constructed by designing on the basis of leading experience. For operation of plant’s automatized control and management systems, there should be no power cut’, the company said.
