"We support the future expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and the increase in the supply of natural gas from the Shah Deniz field," EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson told a press conference organized after the 8th ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, Report informs.
"We have close relations with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the European Union (EU) in energy security. The SGC will play a major role in the reliable gas supply of Southeast Europe. Currently, there is a price rise in the energy market. From this point of view, I think that the SGC is important for the energy supply of this part of Europe," she said.
Kadri Simson also said that some work will be done on decarbonization: "We will take steps to reduce methane emissions by using traditional energy sources. We know that Azerbaijan is a country which is rich in renewable energy sources, and we are ready to support Azerbaijan in this area. I can say with confidence that I am satisfied with our discussions with Azerbaijan."
