Deputy minister: Azerbaijan is initiator of global cooperation formats in energy field

In addition to being the source country of the Southern Gas Corridor with its proven gas reserves of 2.6 trillion cubic meters and the green energy corridor thanks to 27 GW on land and 157 GW of renewable energy resources in the sea, Azerbaijan is also the initiator of global cooperation formats in the field of energy, Deputy Minister of Energy, Kamal Abbasov said in his speech at the Voice of the South Summit 2023 organized as part of India's G20 chairmanship, Report informs.

During his speech at the session "Energy Security and Development: Road Map of Prosperity", the Deputy Minister said that Azerbaijan is not only a stable energy supplier in the period when the most complex energy crisis in history is experienced, energy security has become the central issue of the global agenda, and international relations regarding energy export and import are renewed, but also a reliable partner increasing its contribution to global energy security.

"Today, along with strengthening its energy independence, Azerbaijan is taking strategic steps to diversify the energy balance of its partners with green sources in addition to oil, natural gas, and electricity," Abbasov said.

In the speech, it was also stated that the rational energy security policy is the basis of the role played by Azerbaijan in the international arena. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan is not dependent on any country or energy resource and has access to regional and European markets.

The deputy minister also noted that by 2030, it is aimed to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the production capacity of electricity in Azerbaijan to 30%.
