bp explores new opportunities for cooperation in energy transition in Azerbaijan

Bernard Looney, bp’s chief executive, is on a two-day planned working visit to Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing bp-Azerbaijan.

Mr. Looney met with President Ilham Aliyev this morning, discussing developments in bp’s core oil and gas business in the region. Mr. Looney reiterated bp’s commitment to Azerbaijan and the region, sharing the company’s plans for long-term partnership and its intention to explore new opportunities for cooperation in the energy transition, including renewable energy projects in the region.

Mr. Looney specifically highlighted the significance of the two agreements recently signed between bp and the Ministry of Energy and bp and SOCAR to work together to implement the Shafag (Sunrise) project and explore other opportunities that will lead to the decarbonization of oil and gas operations in support of Azerbaijan’s and bp’s aims to significantly reduce their operational emissions.

During his visit, Mr. Looney also had a number of internal meetings, including a townhall for bp’s regional staff.
