Azerbaijan's gas exports to Turkiye down by almost 29%

In January 2022, Turkiye imported 796.32 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan, 28.8% less than in January 2021, Report informs, citing the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

In January 2022, Azerbaijan ranked third among Turkiye’s suppliers in terms of the amount of gas it imported.

In January this year, Turkiye imported over 6.704 billion cubic meters of gas, 10.02% more than in 2020.

In January, Turkiye imported most of the gas from Russia – over 2.618 billion cubic meters to Turkiye (an increase of 2.11% compared to 2020). Russia is followed by the United States, which supplied Turkiye with over 1.205 billion cubic meters of gas, 89.92 times more than in 2020).

Turkiye receives Azerbaijani natural gas produced in the Shah Deniz field. Batches of natural gas are supplied to the Turkish market through the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) and the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP). The first gas through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline entered the Turkish market in 2007. Commercial gas supplies to Turkiye through TANAP began on June 30, 2018.
