Azerbaijani academy refuses to accept resignation of institute director-general

The leadership of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has not accepted the resignation of Director-General of the Institute of History Prof Karim Shukurov, Report learned from the academy.

Earlier Karim Shukurov tendered his resignation, and in this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of ANAS President Ramiz Mehdiyev with the participation of vice-presidents.

Karim Shukurov’s resignation was not accepted.

On January 19, at a meeting of the presidium of ANAS, R. Mehdiyev sharply criticized the activities of the Institute of History. On January 20, Karim Shukurov commented on the criticism of the institute. Later, the professor announced that on January 21, in protest against inadequate criticism of himself and the Institute of History, led by him, he would resign from his position at the academy.
