ANAS’s general meeting kicks off, president of academy to be elected at meeting

Baku. 8 June. REPORT.AZ/ The general meeting of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has started.

Report informs, the meeting is being held in the conference hall of the Presidium of the Academy.

Head of the Presidential Administration, academic Ramiz Mehdiyev, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmedov, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy Issues at Presidential Administration Farah Aliyeva, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the State Examination Center Maleyka Abbaszadeh, active and correspondent members of the academy, state officials, MPs, high school rectors are attending the general meeting.

The report on scientific and scientific-organizational activities of Presidium of ANAS for 2017 will be heardş Golden Medal of the Azerbaijan Republic named after Nizami Ganjavi, Nominal awards of ANAS will be presented.

The new composition of the Presidium of ANAS and the President of ANAS will also be selected at the meeting. The president of the Academy will be elected for five years at the general meeting. The President of ANAS, elected by the General Meeting of the Academy, will be presented to President Ilham Aliyev for approval.

The Vice Presidents of the Academy will be elected for a term of 5 years with a two-thirds majority of the ANAS’s active members who take part in secret election at the general meeting. The vice-presidents, academic-secretary and other members of the Presidium of the Academy will be approved by the Presidium of the ANAS.

Notably, at present, academic Akif Alizade is the president of ANAS. He was elected to this position in 2013. The vice-presidents of ANAS are academics Ibrahim Guliyev, Isa Habibbayli, Tofig Naghiyev and Dilgam Taghiyev.
