Burnt areas of Azerbaijan to be mapped

Fire locations in the territory of Azerbaijan will be mapped and reforestation measures will be implemented in stages in the burnt areas during the autumn tree planting season, the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR), Firdovsi Aliyev, said at a press conference held in August on the fires that occurred in the territory of Azerbaijan.

According to him, in the first stage, trees burnt and whose biological development is impossible will be removed, and forest seeds suitable for the climatic conditions and tree species of the area will be sown, and seedlings will be planted: "Fortunately, not all forest cover has been destroyed. The burning areas are being monitored, and reforestation measures will be started."

The Deputy Minister reminded that MENR developed the National Forestry Program with the technical support of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative office in Azerbaijan: "The program covers 2022-2030 and has been submitted for review in coordination with relevant institutions."
