Chingiz Asgarov responds to allegations regarding shortage of judges

Work is being done to increase the number of judges, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan Chingiz Asgarov told Report, commenting on the allegations of the shortage of judges in Azerbaijan.

"The judge selection process is carried out by the Judicial-Legal Council. Every year new judges are appointed to the courts. This process is also welcomed by European countries and international organizations. Almost 30 new judges are appointed to the courts every year. This is how the problem of shortage of judges is being gradually eliminated," he said.

Chingiz Asgarov also stressed that reforms are carried out in the judicial system, just like in other areas.

"Very positive changes are taking place as a result of these reforms,” he said.

According to Asgarov, thanks to the reforms, the quality of legal assistance provided to people will be further improved:

“Besides, the level of lawyers' professionalism will be increased. Many reforms are being implemented in this regard. This is for the convenience of citizens."
