Azerbaijani people and army saved the region from Armenian fascism – Ilham Aliyev

Zangilan district, like other liberated regions, has suffered great destruction. Armenian forces almost razed the district to the ground. There are only 1-2 undestroyed buildings left in Zangilan, which were used by the Armenian occupiers - the military, President Ilham Aliyev said on May 4 while receiving Vahid Hajiyev in a video format in connection with the appointment of the President's Special Representative in the Zangilan district, which is part of the East Zangazur economic region.

The head of state noted that not a single village survived. All the villages of Zangilan were destroyed.

"This once again shows the Armenian vandalism to the whole world and that the Azerbaijani people and the Azerbaijani Army have saved our district from a great disaster – the Armenian fascism," Aliyev added. "At the same time, the Armenians destroyed all our historical and religious monuments in the Zangilan district. We have already started the restoration of our historical and religious monuments. With the financial support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Zangilan city mosque is now being overhauled and, in fact, being reconstructed. Because there was only one wall left from this mosque. The same bitter picture as in Zangilan can be seen in all other liberated territories."
