Azerbaijan releases nearly 1,000 prisoners early during pandemic 

The Ministry of Justice held a video conference titled "Measures to combat COVID-19 in the judicial bodies" with representatives of the European Union and the diplomatic corps of 15 countries in Azerbaijan.

The government has freed about 1,000 inmates ahead of their due release date to help contain the virus in prisons, Report says.

As many as 429 detainees were released under house arrest and other alternative measures.

So far, Azerbaijan has 20,837 confirmed cases and 258 related deaths. The country's recoveries stand at 12,182.
