Climate changes along with anthropogenic impact are leading to a continuous decline in the Caspian Sea level, Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mansur Oshurbayev said at a COP29 event "Caspian Sea Water Decline in light of climate change", Report informs.
He noted that studies show that the Caspian Sea level will drop to -29.6 meters by 2030.
"By 2050, the sea level may reach -32 or -34 meters. In light of this, we realize that climate change can affect our quality of life," he said.
The vice minister noted that countries should join efforts in finding a solution to the shallowing problem, which could lead to serious consequences.
"We support Azerbaijan in the matter of creating a working group on the issue of the Caspian Sea shallowing," he added.
