The European Club Association (ECA) urges football clubs to be more proactive in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and addressing climate issues, ECA's Head of Sustainability Gaia Pretner told a meeting organized by Qarabag Football Club with teams that will join an alliance to combat climate change within COP29, Report informs.
Pretner noted that the field of sustainable development has seen rapid progress in recent years, which created a shortage of personnel in this area.
"The main priority is to understand the needs of clubs. We are trying to understand the key points by closely interacting with them, especially with working groups. It's important to interact with stakeholders and then develop a plan and strategy to address the most important issues," she said.
Pretner emphasized that carbon dioxide emissions by ECA members, amounting to about 1,100 tons per year, are insignificant in the football world, but by helping 10 clubs reduce emissions by 5%, the association can achieve better results.
