Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan only aggravates instability in Armenia with his statements about the “continuation of the revolution” in difficult conditions for him, political scientist Tofig Abbasov told Report.

"Pashinyan's power is weak and does not control the situation in the country. When Pashinyan observes that situation is difficult for him, he calls on the people and his supporters to block the buildings of the courts for not having the legal leverage to bring the situation under control and act by the force of law. This is a very indicative moment – when situation becomes difficult for Pashinyan, when he is trapped, he declares that the revolution continues,"  Abbasov said.

According to him, Pashinyan's ideas and priorities of "revolution" are so vague and uncertain that destabilization in Armenia turns into a constant, a permanent situation.

The expert believes that in order to normalize the situation, the national elite of Armenia, first of all, should determine its tasks, which is well aware that "the source of all the problems of the Armenian Republic is the occupation of Karabakh", however does not dare to make a strong-willed movement and compromise with the Azerbaijani side.

"In this case, I consider that we should take into account the role and explosive power of the Karabakh clan, the separatists, who continue to have a dampening effect on the mentality of the elite. This platform of separatism, that settled on Azerbaijani lands, will always play the role of an explosive material, since it is necessary to solve this problem at once," Abbasov stressed.

According to the political scientist, there is a critical situation in Armenia when healthy and moderate forces in the national elite should "kick the teeth" of the separatists, who are constantly "rattling" with weapons, and decide on the future of the Armenian statehood.

"Since Kocharian is at large, he will now play the role of the agent of calm. Surely, he will bet on their old opportunities and supporters to seize power. Pashinyan and his supporters are capable to take control of the situation and prevent a new coup d'état or terrorist attacks, such as the one that occured in the Parliament in 1995. If you do not oppose a clear barrier to these encroachments, then this war of separatists, “Karabakh” mafia clan with the national elite, all this can lead to disastrous results in an already unpredictable country," he concluded.
